Both paid careful attention as each layer was added. While the trainer’s work was fired in the furnace, Jen-Chih Tsai and Hiroake Tada prepared to demonstrate the skills they had learned. The course instructor assisted them and provided them with tips and techniques.

Preparing for the final placement session
The highly anticipated try-in before firing was meant to show whether the participants were on the right track. Along with instructor Luc Rutten, the award winners would be able to examine their work directly in the patient’s mouth. They engaged in a lively discussion about where shade and shape modifications were necessary to copy tooth 21, the adjacent tooth, accurately. In order to be ready for the official placement session, the two award winners finalized their restorations. After correction firings, final preparation and polishing, all three crowns were complete. The most esthetically-pleasing crown was selected based on the needs of the patient.
